The 12 Days Of Gifmas

2016 — Almost over already?? Well, it's that time of year where we wind down and create a little project just for fun. This year for our Christmas project, “The 12 Days of Gifmas” we have taken the Classic Christmas 12 Days scenarios, and created an animated gif that we are releasing everyday before we clock off for the year!

The 12 Days Of Gifmas

2016 — Almost over already?? Well, it's that time of year where we wind down and create a little project just for fun. This year for our Christmas project, “The 12 Days of Gifmas” we have taken the Classic Christmas 12 Days scenarios, and created an animated gif that we are releasing everyday before we clock off for the year! ...

Dismaland

Dismal: causing a mood of gloom or depression. Dismaland: the bemusement park aimed to fulfil this feeling. It’s been 6 whole years since the highly elusive Banksy has put on a spectacle for the public, after the success that was the exhibition in Bristol Museum 2009, he is back with the acclaimed ‘Dismaland’. A collaborative exhibition with multiple international artists, the event sees a sea of dark humour mixed with sobering themes on the state of the world primarily politically and socially, all contained in the old Tropicana Pleasure Beach site in Weston Super Mare. Open for a limited time of 5 weeks, the park is said to be the ‘UK’s most disappointing new visitor attraction’. I just had to go. ...

Hollie’s Design Stuff Talk

This year one of my new years resolution was to say yes more and when Dan Spain, founder of Design Stuff approached me and asked if I wanted to do a talk at one of the events I jumped at the opportunity. Every Thursday near the end of the month 10 Feet tall holds host to the brilliant even that is ‘Design Stuff’ - a social event for creatives, designers and anyone else who likes to come along. At every event two designers present a talk on a topic of their choice and on the 26th February it was my turn to talk. When Dan initially asked me to do the talk I was a tiny bit hesitant about what topic I would chose to talk about......

Our New Website

We are pleased to say that our portfolio is back, alive and kicking in the online realm! So, why was it down in the first place? Back last year when we moved into the new studio we had every intention of giving our old website a bit of a nip and a tuck and update it with some current design projects, as to be honest a fair amount of time had flown by since we last showed it any love. Last May we sat down, ate too many biscuits and reviewed the site, discussed every aspect of it and how it related to us and what we do....

The Studio

This post comes a little later than intended, as we actually moved into our new Studio in January 2014 and with the new site being on the back burner for some time, well this one slipped. We had been looking for the perfect space to house Girl and Boy for some time, after looking at several potential spaces nothing ever quite ticked the boxes of what we had in mind. Our search started and we saw many suitable but stark and somewhat bland corporate feeling spaces......

Merry Christmas 2014

So, with endless meandering traffic jams, clogging the entrance to Cardiff city centre, the heating on full pelt, and what seems like a lifetime of 80's festive hits declaring marshall law on the playlists – it can only mean one thing... T'is the season to be Jolly!! The perks of endless supplies of Yuletide stolen, mince pies, and brandy butter aside! This means here at Girl & Boy, we get to gather around the hearth, with a sherry, and conceive our annual Christmas card. ...

Introducing Hollie

Since officially joining the team in Autumn 2014 it’s safe to say that I am having the time of my life here at Girl & Boy studio. It’s not often you land your ideal job a couple of months after graduating from University, definitely counting my lucky stars. From starting out by doing a few weeks work experience in the studio to being a fully fledged employee I have already gained a lot about being involved in a successful, working design agency. It’s great to be part of a studio that has a clear idea of who they want to be and are not afraid to go out of their comfort zone to achieve results. For me, the biggest learning curve i’ve experienced so far was the transition between University work and the real life world of industry...
